An Attractive Pre World War One Saxon Court Sword with Damascus Blade. The 28 - 1/2" damascus blade features intricate gilded motifs over areas of blue panelling. The maker marked side of the blade features the Saxon crown over the letter "U", as well as a larger dedication with "Engers 1908" in raised relief in the center. The opposite side of the dagger features a rolling scroll with "Schirmer S/l. v. Biegler u. Klipphausen". The blue paneling and gilded motifs have a few areas of light fading and wear. The damascus blade exhibits scattered dark rust spots towards the tip of the blade. The hilt and "D" guard are made of a gilded brass which features fine hand enhancing. The degen's grip is wrapped with an alternating wrap of large and small double twist wires. A brass Luftwaffe eagle has been added to the grip of the sword at some time. While the eagle appears old, and shows age and wear, it is unknown at which point in time this eagle was added. The pommel nut is also made of gilded brass and features the Saxon crest. The swords scabbard comprises of a brown painted steel body, which shows scattered light marks and a large repair on the rear center area of the body, and gilded brass throat and drag. The scabbards throat is held firmly in place by a single brass screw on the reverse of the scabbard. Light wear to the throats gilding can be seen. The scabbards drag is held in place with a scabbard staple. The number "25" can be observed under the drags affixing staple. CONDITION: Very Good D.W.
