1854 Vintage Colt Model 1849 Pocket Revolver, serial number 97331. 4" barrel with hand engraved "SAM'L COLT" in script on top barrel flat. Engraved in classic Gustave Young style with foliate scrolls and Gothic Dog motifs on the barrel lug and hammer. Blue with case hardened frame, hammer, and loading lever. Silverplated backstrap and trigger guard. 1 piece ivory grips. Letter "I" preceeding serial number indicating factory ivories. Cylinder is believed to be a later re-numbered replacement with period engraving. Housed in a walnut partition style case with green interior. Complete with powder flask marked "COLTS PATENT" and a two-cavity brass bullet mold marked "COLTS PATENT". Cap tin marked "ELEY BRO's". CONDITION: Revolver is near fine with metal turned a dove grey patina overall. Backstrap and triggerguard showing 10-15% original silver. Ivory grips are near excellent showing a mellow honey color patina with multiple age lines. Matching serial numbers. As stated, possible replacement cylinder. Cylinder does not cycle properly when cocked. Bore shows strong straight rifling with moderate abrasion. Case is near fine with loose corners. Interior shows moderate wear with loose partitions. -MKS-
