The Browning Model 1917A1 is an easily recognizable machine gun, and saw much multi-role usage during WWII with infantry, armored fighting vehicles, combat aircraft, and naval vessels with the Allies during World War II, and continued to be used up into the Korean War. Being succeeded during the 1960's in the U.S. Military by the much newer M-60 machine gun, the Model 1917A1 remained in use by Third World countries well within the late 20th century. This example is marked "NO. 05016 US. INPS./ BROWNING MACHINE GUN/ US. CAL .30 M1917A1/ MFG INLAND" on the right side of the receiver, and has been fitted with accessories to represent a Model 1928 Commercial variation. Features include a Model 1928 Commercial thumb safety and flash hider, as well as a carry handle, which is fitted around the water jacket. Grip is fitted with two piece brown plastic grip panels. Action is still retained under spring pressure and can be manually operated, but will not cock. Complete with a tripod pintle, water can, water hose, and an ammunition box, which contains a belt of dummy ammunition. CONDITION: Metal components retain the vast majority of their reapplied green parkerized finish, exhibiting a few scattered areas of wear, as well as some scattered areas of oxidation. Water jacket shows a few scattered dents. Mirror bore, with well defined rifling throughout. Tripod pintle shows some wear and flaking to it's black painted finish. Water can retains it's canvas carry handle and retains the majority of it's paint. Ammo box, no longer retains its carry handle, but is otherwise good. A very nice and attractive 1917A1, which would make for an excellent addition to one's display. -MLW-
