Harpers Ferry Model 1841 "Mississippi Rifle" dated 1849. 33" round browned .58 caliber barrel with v-notch rear sight and blade front. Markings include (Eagle) / "U.S." on lock followed by "Harpers Ferry" / "1849" behind hammer on lock written vertically. 1 piece plain walnut stock with brass mountings complete with large brass patchbox on left side of stock (patchbox is empty). Stock bears "WAT" (William Anderson Thornton) cartouche in oval preceded by smaller illegible sub-inspector cartouche in oval. CONDITION: Excellent, with barrel retaining almost all of its restored brown finish. Brass barrel bands and mountings are very good as cleaned and chemically aged. Lock shows some minor pitting and handling marks. Stock is excellent as sanded and refinished with no visible cracks or repairs and modest wear. Action works appropriately. Bore is dark with nearly invisible rifling and heavy abrasion. -TN-
