Spencer Model 1860 Cavalry Carbine serial number 42038 made between 1863 to 1865 by the Spencer Repeating Rifle Company, Boston, Massachusetts. 6-groove, round, rifled barrel with blade front sight and flip graduated sight to 800 yards. Case hardened frame with "M" inspector mark and breechblock mark of unknown purpose. Receiver marked "Spencer Repeating Rifle Co. Boston, Mass./PAT'D March 6 1860" with slide bar for saddle ring. 3-position hammer with blued lock. Walnut plain stock with sling swivel and illegible inspector's marks behind slide bar. Walnut plain forearm with spring held barrel band. CONDITION: Barrel turning a brown patina with some light surface pitting. Action turning a light brown patina with lock having an added coat of blue. Stock has old coat of added finish with usage marks and dings. Shootable bore and good mechanics. DLM

CORRECTION: The breechblock has been converted to centerfire.
