Wells Fargo Marked Smith and Wesson Second Model Schofield single action revolver. Made 1876-1877. Sold as government surplus before being sold again to Wells Fargo. Standard patent dates on both sides of the barrel going to 1873. Barrel and butt have a Wells Fargo Inventory number of "643" on the right side of the barrel and the butt. "WF & CO. EX." also marked on the left side of the barrel. Barrel has been correctly shortened to 5". Serial number on the cylinder matches the butt. Original blued finish was worn to a nice patina. Correct walnut grips with lanyard on the butt. CONDITION: Metal retains little of its original finish, forming a nice gray patina. Grips are very good with minor handling marks and scratches. Bore has a few minor pits, with good rifling retained. Cylinder has poor timing and will need adjustment. Mechanically operable, but will need work to be fully functional. JWA
