Kentucky percussion rifle stamped "J. Fordney Lancaster, Pennsylvania". Jacob Fordney worked in Lancaster, Pennsylvania from 1830 to 1878. Full octagon smoothbore barrel with blade front sight and notched rear sight stamped with Fordney's name. Percussion lock marked "Warranted" controlled by a single trigger. Full curly maple stock with brass furniture including a 4-piece brass engraved patchbox with release in toe. Atypical Fordney wrist carving which resembles checkering coin sliver oval cheekpiece inlay engraved with tulip floral design and silver thumbpiece. CONDITION: Metal has aged patina with some burnout pitting around touch hole. Wood maintains traces of original dark stain finish with wear on carry and usage areas. No visible restoration or repairs. Bore possibly bored out at one point in its lifetime to smoothbore. Good mechanics. Nice original condition Kentucky. DLM
