Robins, Kendall & Lawrence percussion Model 1841 "Mississippi Rifle" dated 1847. 33" barrel in .58 caliber with V-notch rear sight and blade front. Added on bayonet lug for saber type bayonet, hand-stamped "462." Barrel is marked with "U.S." / "JH" / "P" with what appears to be "348" on breech tang. Stock bears "WAT" cartouche. Top of buttplate is marked "US". 1-piece plain walnut stock with brass mountings complete with 2 sling swivels (one on forward-most band and the other on brass trigger guard) and full-length ramrod, possibly the original. Large patchbox on right side of buttstock, typical of model 1841 percussion rifles with additional nipple, patches, wads, a patchworm, and a combination tool featuring a nipple wrench and screwdriver. Also included is a small brass hangtag in patchbox with "70" marked on one side. CONDITION: Good, with barrel turning a mottled brown-gray patina with heavy corrosion near bolster and breech. Lock is very good, with sharp markings and moderate wear. Brass mountings are turning a mustard patina with scattered pitting. Stock is very good with finish added and several cracks (including behind forearm tip, and on right and left sides of buttstock) and a repair at wrist near lockplate. Action works correctly. Bore is bright with visible rifling and moderate abrasion. -TN-
