John and Benjamin Parsons are recorded as working between 1817-1829 at 8 Lichfield Street; Adams too vague to determine a precise maker. Brass bead front sight, notch rear sight. Large 9" octagonal barrel with hooked patent breech and inlaid in gold on top strap "ADAMS LONDON". Horn tipped ramrod retained by single reinforced ferrule. Brass tipped ramrod. Silver forearm tip. Single set trigger with trigger guard engraved with a stand of arms. Trigger guard with pineapple finial. Tang engraved en suite. Lock signed "J & B / PARSONS" with fenced waterproof gold lined pan, roller bearing frizzen, English push on safety, and simply filed swan neck cock. Touch hole with silver bushing. Cock and lock engraved with florals and floral lined border. Bag grip with checkering at wrist. Vacant silver escutcheon thumbpiece. CONDITION: Good. metal has been cleaned in the European fashion over some old oxidation. One reinforcing ramrod ferrule chipped at mouth. Wood has been gently cleaned and is now shy to metal in a few places and has some softness at sharp edges. One screw at left side of hooked breech has been molested. Action works appropriately when cycled by hand, bore is very good with some minor pitting. A nice example. EW
