This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/17/2020
Lot consist of: (A) Crescent Firearms Model Nitro Hunter single shot shotgun reported to have been used in the Valentine's Day Massacre and owned by Al Capone. Barrel has been crudely cut down to 20-1/2". Handguard is being retained with two metal straps over the barrel and handguard. Metal has lost most of its finish with heavy wear and patina. Stock was cut off at the wrist, and rounded off. Faint serial number on the frame, under the trigger guard. Chamber marked "REINFORCED BREACH/CHOKE BORED". Included is paperwork describing the events of the St. Valentine's Day Massacre, and this shotguns possible involvement, being the firearm the "obliterated the faces of two individuals". Paperwork also states that Al Capone gave this shotgun to W.H. Thompkins sometime in the early 1940's after returning from time served at Alcatraz prison. W.H. Tompkins had been taking care of Capone's' Hialeah Florida estate and Capone reported gave this shotgun to him as payment. Tompkins would later go on to be a councilman for the City of Hialeah Florida. None of this information can be confirmed but is a possibly legitimate story. The shotgun sits in a display case with Al Capone's mug shot, a picture of the Hialeah Florida estate, and W.H. Tompkins Councilman's badge. CONDITION: Metal retains little to none of its original finish with heavy wear and patina. Wood has numerous dings and scratches. Bore has heavy pitting near the chamber. Lock up is tight, as is the hammer. Mechanically fine. Display case and badge are excellent. Photos are framed copies. (B) Savage 1907 semi-automatic pistol. Made 1910. Standard patent dates and "CAL .32" on the top of the slide. Blade front sight and u-notch rear. Blued finish has worn to a dull patina in most areas. Hard rubber grips with checkering and the "SAVAGE/QUALITY" logo. Includes original magazine, display case, picture of the Florida estate, Al Capone mugshot, and a picture of W.H. Tompkins Councilman badge. An affidavit is included saying this gun and gun C in this lot were owned by W.H. Tompkins. CONDITION: Metal retains little to none of its original finish with the metal turning to a grey patina in most areas. Grips have wear and handling marks. Bore is frosted, but does retain very good overall rifling. Mechanically fine. Magazine is a grey patina as well. Case is very good with light wear. Pictures are framed copies. An affidavit is included saying this gun and gun B in this lot were owned by W.H. Tompkins. (C) Mossberg Brownie 4-shot pistol. Made 1920's. Blade front sight. Metal finish has worn to a heavy patina. Wood grips, with the left panel half missing. CONDITION: Metal retains none of its original finish with heavy patina. Grips have wear and the aforementioned damage. Bores are heavily frosted with fair rifling. Mechanically inoperable, as it appears to be missing parts. A neat group of firearms with possible historical significance. JWA
