Remington Hepburn No. 3 Sporting Rifle, serial number 2231. 26" half octagon to round (No. 4 weight for octagon, No. 2 weight for round) barrel chambered for the .44 (2 - 6/10" case length) Remington cartridge (.44/100 Remington Creedmoor/.44-90 Remington Straight). Barrel is marked with E. Remington & Sons Ilion NY barrel address. Newly manufactured mid-range Vernier tang sight with plug in rear dovetail and blade front. 2 piece checkered walnut stock and forearm with metal forearm cap and Sporting Rifle buttplate. Matching serial numbers on bottom of barrel, forearm, and bottom tang. Assembly number "5611" on bottom of buttplate and stock on face where stock meets receiver. "1486" stamped on left side of top and bottom receiver tangs. CONDITION: Very good, with barrel and blued assemblies turning a mottled dove gray patina with modest pitting throughout. Receiver is essentially entirely gray with only traces of case color remaining and scattered freckling. Stock and forearm are excellent, retaining virtually all of their original finish with modest wear. Buttplate has turned a dark patina with traces of case color remaining. Action works correctly and locks tightly. Bore has some darkness on the lands and grooves toward the muzzle with worn but visible rifling. -TN-
