1889 vintage Winchester Model 1886 lever action rifle, serial number 35811. 24 - 3/4" octagon barrel with full length magazine tube chambered in .40-82 Winchester Center Fire complete with standard rear sight and Marble's Number 2 blade front sight. 2 piece plain walnut stock and forearm complete with rifle forearm cap and Winchester hard rubber shotgun buttplate. According to the factory research accompanying this lot, it was shipped October 16, 1889 as a rifle with fully octagon barrel chambered in .40-82 WCF with plain trigger. No other information is listed. CONDITION: Very good, with original bluing fading to a blue-gray patina with scattered light handling marks and pitting with wear at high edges. Stock and forearm are good as sanded and refinished. Section near bottom of stock near toe has been removed and replaced with non-matching piece of wood. Action works correctly when cycled by hand but is rubbing on hammer giving action a rough feel. Bore is frosted with corrosion and good rifling. -TN-
