Excellent Japaneses Kokura Type 44 bolt action carbine. This a second variation model with the longer bayonet assembly housing. It correctly fits in the serial number range of second variation rifles, being made sometime in the mid 1930's. Chrysanthemum is crisp on top of the chamber, as is the Kanji. No import mark found. Numbers on the receiver, bolt, magazine floor plate, and bayonet housing all match. Assembly number "999" is matching on the receiver, rear receiver tang, trigger, trigger guard, rear trigger guard tang, extractor, interior of the stock, interior of the upper handguard, and the bolt release. Rear sight, magazine button, and safety knob numbers do not match. Firing pin is not numbered. Standard blade front sight with rear tangent sight set, 400-2000 meters. Original blued finish with correct fire blued follower. Correctly finished 2 piece wood stock with original steel butt plate and trap door. No cleaning kit in the butt stock. CONDITION: Metal retains 98% of its original finish with a few handling marks. Wood is excellent with a few minor dings and scratches. There is a deep gouge on the right side of the butt stock. Bore is clean, rifling is good overall. Mechanically fine. JWA
