Lot consist of: (A) Springfield 1892 Krag bolt action rifle. Made 1894. These rifles are sometimes incorrectly called "1894 Krags" but the Model is designated "1892", 1894 being the year of production. Receiver is marked "U.S./1894 SPRINGFIELD ARMORY 10935". Stock is from a later Krag rifle, as it lacks the hole for a cleaning rod. Stock also lacks an inspector stamp, but is marked with a circle "P" firing proof on the bottom of the wrist. original 2-part blade front sight. Rear ladder is adjustable to 1800 yards. Original bluing has turned to a light grey patina in most places. Stock has been sanded, stripping most of the finish away. Smooth finish metal buttplate with trapdoor. Missing the rear sling swivel and stacking swivel. CONDITION: Metal retains little to none of its original finish with wear and a light grey patina forming in most areas. Wood has a few handling marks and scratches. Grey bore with good overall rifling. Mechanically fine. (B) Springfield Model 1898 Krag "DCM" bolt action carbine. Receiver looks to have been made in 1898. This carbine most likely started life as a full rifle, before being having the barrel cut down to 22" at Benecia Arsenal. Barrel was recrowned, in addition to installing a 1903-style blade front sight. These are often called "DCM" rifles, as they were sold by the Office of the Director of Civilian Marksmanship" in the 1920's. Receiver has typical 1898 markings. Nice boxed "JSA/1902" stock cartouche on the left side. Faint circle "P" on the bottom of the wrist. Rear sight is an 1896 rifle sight adjustable to 1800 yards, which is not correct for DCM rifles. Original bluing turning to patina in most areas. Stock has a light oil finish. Handguard is missing. Smooth metal buttplate with trapdoor for cleaning kit. Includes generic leather sling. CONDITION: Metal retains little of its original finish, forming a nice patina in most areas. Wood has minor handling marks and scratches. Hairline crack on the left side of the stock, next to the chamber. Bore is heavily frosted with good overall rifling. Mechanically fine.
