Circa 1979 this fine pair of London Best guns are built with 28" blacked steel barrels, 2 - 3/4" chambers, concave game ribs which are numbered "1" and "2" at breech in gold, while sitting in a light floral scroll, steel round front beads. Ribs read "THE ROYAL" in script. Left barrel reads "HOLLAND & HOLLAND". Right barrel reads "13, BRUTON STREET, LONDON". The semi plum brown barrels are fitted with ejectors and Holland & Holland's patented self-opening mechanism. London proved in 1978. All choked Modified & Modified (1/2 & 1/2). The smoky exhibition grade French walnut stocks are built with diamond English straight hand grips, drop points, ovals with initials (EA), and checkered butts. Matching splinter forends with checkered and engraved Anson styled push button releases have gold numbers "1" and "2" just below on their escutcheons. Forends also have matching Royal Scroll engraved forend iron. The seven pin patented Holland & Holland hand detachable sidelocks are beautifully engraved with Holland & Holland's famous Royal Scroll where "Holland & Holland" is engraved in banner. The bottom action is also adorned with Royal Scroll engraving and reads "The Royal Model" in a shield. These single mechanical trigger actions are built with auto safes with "SAFE" in gold. Fully engraved top levers also baring their respective "1" and "2" in gold. The long bottom straps are engraved and have the guns serial numbers inlaid in gold with cast off rolled trigger guards. The pair comes with a leather oxblood colored double motor case. CONDITION: Very good. Barrels on set (A/1) with 90% black remaining. There are scattered handling marks where black has started to fade. The (A/1) stock has some handling marks from usage/storage. The (A/1) splinter forend has several slight handling marks. (A/1) Action is tight on face and ejectors are well timed, trigger is crisp. The (B/2) barrel has 90% black remaining. There are several small abrasions where portions of the black has been removed / faded. (B/2) The stock on this gun has several handling and storage marks primarily near the butt. (B/2) forend has some slight handling marks. (B/2) Action is tight on face and ejectors are well timed, trigger is crisp. Double motor case has several handling and storage marks and a torn left strap. Interior is good. Nice pair of Best guns. CP
