Cavalry style British Enfield Carbine modeled after a Pattern 1856 Cavalry Carbine made circa 1856 to 1865. Gun appears to be one made in the theater or by the East India Company for use in India. Smoothbore barrel with small blade front sight and fixed notch rear sight with "26" behind sight and "506" on tang. Captured steel ramrod. Percussion lock with "Enfield" stamping and "Crown" to the rear of the hammer and "Crown" over "Arrow" proof in front. Walnut full carbine style stock with brass hardware and marked "6" over "40" on right side. CONDITION: Lock looks to be a replacement possibly modern day or crude in the field construction. Wood has aged appearance with brass having a golden yellow patina. Gun appears constructed from parts available in the field(India). Dark bore with good mechanics. DLM
