Colt Model 1863 percussion rifled musket, dated 1863 with 40" round .58 caliber barrel with military adjustable leaf sight and blade front. Marked with Eagle motif on bolster with lock dated 1863 with Colt Hartford Connecticut address and "VP" proof mark on left side of barrel. 1 piece walnut stock with 3 barrel bands, 2 sling swivels (1 at second band and 1 at trigger guard), metal forearm cap, and full length ramrod, possibly the original. CONDITION: Good, with barrel turning a mottled, gray-brown patina with scattered moderate to heavy pitting and handling marks. Eagle motif on bolster has been enhanced. Blued assemblies retain traces of original bluing with balance a mottled brown patina. Stock is fair with heavy handling marks and gouges as well as numerous repairs (namely at second barrel band and wrist) and has been sanded and refinished multiple times. Action works appropriately. Bore is good with visible rifling and heavy abrasion toward muzzle. -TN-
