John S. Johnston worked in McConnellstown, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania from 1835 to 1910. Octagon rifled barrel over round smoothbore barrel with blade front sight and notched rear sight with top flat stamped "J.S. Johnston". Unmarked percussion back action locks with extended homemade hammer. Handmade double set triggers with lathe turned front. Curly maple half stock with brass furniture including an oval floral engraved patchbox. CONDITION: Overall good with aged patina. Traces of original varnish with repaired toe area on stock and some repaired cracks around trigger guard and triggers. Barrels have usage marks and dings with dark bores. Action functions crisply. A nice honest Huntingdon rifle. DLM
