Stippled ramp with dovetailed Marble's brass bead front sight with flip-up moon sight. Ramp sides and perimeter engraved with florals on a punch dot background and a sprig pointing towards breech. Signed ""Owen" Saupuoit. N.Y" in English script midway down barrel. 1/6th length rib at rear with silver line express rear sight with 2 folding leaves and 1 standing leaf with no sight markings. Anti-glare stippling in leaves. Engraved around rib with same floral and punch dot backgrounds. Receiver engraved en suite with a Bull Moose head over fore ring. Case colored bolt stop engraved with punch lined borders and florals. "850", possibly Owen control number, stamped in bolt cut. Lyman All-Weather Alaskan in blued Paul Jaeger QD mount. Bolt with 8 panel checkered handle, engraved en suite with rest of gun, and with engine turned body. Floorplate is wonderfully engraved likely by Kornbrath with a forested scene depicting a snarling bear and a standing elk separated by well cut floral scroll. Custom stock with with horn forearm tip, forearm with a mixture of wave and point pattern checkering with decorative smooth tendrils through checkering. Bottom metal and trigger guard engraved with floral scroll en suite with floor plate and gold inlaid initials, looks to be "EPP". Case colored pistol grip cap with well cut scroll. Shadowline cheekpiece. Sling swivel at toe of stock and soldered to underside of barrel. Metal buttplate with fine checkering and lined borders. Vacant trap in butt where sling screw is visible. CONDITION: Very good, retaining much of an appropriate blue finish that would have been applied when converted from a 1903. There are a few minor marks from handling and operation and a few minor spots of silvering under the forearm. Receiver has a few old pits under the blue beneath the stock line. Stock is very good with some normal wear marks but nothing significant. One extremely minor chip at butt that has been repaired with wood fill. Case colors have largely faded but there are still flashes of color in a few areas. Action works appropriately when cycled by hand, bore is clean with good rifling, glass is clear. A lovely early American custom rifle by one of the foremost makers. EW
