Brass bead front on matted rib with pop-up rifle sight and two reserves, one with "-30. Winch. 94 -" and "J.P. SAUER & SOHN, SUHL", latter inlaid in gold. Barrels with steel designation rollmarks reading "-SPECIAL-GEWEHR-LAUF-/-STAHL- // (Triple Interlocking Rings)) // -FRIED. KRUPP A.G. - / -ESSEX -" on both barrel barrel flats with German diagnostic proofs. Doll's head rib extension with line engraving at border accented by gold line inlay. Sling eye of soldered onto bottom of rifle barrel. Splinter tip forend with point pattern checkering throughout and ebony tip. Deely release with well cut scroll engraving and case coloring in finger recess. Receiver has been engraved with fantastic deep chisel cut forested scene with raised gold inlaid buck and doe with "J.P. SAUER & SOHN, SUHL" in ribbon across bottom and outlining vignettes. Underside of receiver with same deeply chisel cut work, this time depicting a marshland and dove in flight, right side with a third deeply chisel cut scene depicting two hounds chasing a fox. Balance of receiver is engraved in excellent tight scroll. Cocking indicators, left side with safety, tang mounted with rifle selector and "SCHROT" and "KUGEL" (trans: Shot and Bullet, respectively) inlaid in gold at top and bottom. Sidepanels converging to points with inlaid ebony diamonds. Two panels of point checkering at pistol grip wrist. Horn trigger guard with double triggers, front sight for rifle fire. Pistol grip with metal cap with border engraving. Sling ring along belly of stock. Cartridge compartment for four cartridges in belly of stock with tight scroll engraving. Stock cast off. Action, pistol grip cap, and cartridge compartment cover are case colored. Horn buttplate. CONDITION: Extremely fine and highly attractive. Barrels retain the vast majority of their original black with a few areas of silvering from assembly and a few very minor marks from use. Forearm is very good with very few marks from handling. Action is very good, with the majority of case color having faded and some strong flashes remaining. Engraving is crisp and highly attractive. Stock is very good with a few minor marks from handling and operation. Action works appropriately when gently cycled by hand, bores are very good with clean shotgun bores and just a little minor abrasion in rifling. A really wonderful rifle in prime condition, obviously made with the American market in mind. EW
