Circa 1960. Built within the first decade of Holland's new higher quality boxlock. A light and lively pair of sporting game guns by London Best Holland & Holland with 26" blacked steel barrels. Barrels have 3" chambers, ejectors, elegant and slender concave game rib and round steel front bead sight. On both guns the top right barrel reads "HOLLAND & HOLLAND". On both guns top left barrel reads "13, BRUTON STREET, LONDON". The ribs on both guns are numbered "1" and "2" with gold inlay near breech. Both sets of barrels are choked Full and Improved Cylinder. Nice English walnut stocks with straight grain and a bit of fiddleback have English straight hand diamond grips, drop points, good checkering, ovals for initials, and checkered butts. Matching splinter forends with Anson styled releases and fine checkering. Strong case colored scalloped boxlock actions with well-executed English scroll and "Holland & Holland" in bar. Action bottom and hardware are blacked and engraved with fine English scroll. Actions are built with traditional double triggers, gold inlaid numbered ("1" and "2") on top levers, auto safes (SAFE) in gold and with blacked long bottom straps. Both guns come in a double canvas and leather luggage case with snap caps and cleaning tools. CONDITION: GOOD. (A/1) 95% black with marginal handling marks and a bit of color fading at the muzzles. (A/1) Stock with long thin crack on left side of stock running from just behind the midpoint of the scalloped action carrying slightly upwards above the drop point and carrying back to the top end of the checkering on the grip along with some minor handling marks. (A/1) Forend has minor handling marks and a slight chip on its top left edge. (A/1) Action case colors approximately 90%. Action is tight on face, triggers are crisp and ejectors are well-timed. (B/2) 95% black with some light handling/rub marks and a slight bit of black fading at muzzle. (B/2) Stock with some usage, handling marks with a bit of wear at butt. (B/2) Forend with a few light handling marks. (B/2) 90% case colors remaining. Front trigger very light pull. Action is tight and ejectors are well-timed. (A1/B2) Forends do not lock to barrels when guns are not assembled. Case is in good condition showing some usage and storage wear. Fun pair! CP
