Winchester Model 1876 lever action rifle made in 1882. Blued octagon barrel marked with Winchester address and "King's Improvement Patent" in front of rear adjustable sight with no caliber marking. Front sight is homemade replacement. Silver plated frame with single set trigger and silver plated nosecap with 2/3 magazine. Walnut plain stock with steel crescent trapdoor buttplate. Walnut plain forearm. Comes with Winchester Factory Letter stating manufacture date and confirming set trigger and "1/2 silver plating" which are both rare features. CONDITION: Barrel has been shortened from unknown original length evidenced by dished underrail on bottom side of barrel. Front sight is definitely a replacement and magazine tube has been cut down. Gun has potential for restoration having been a factory nickel gun which Madis says 1 in 90 guns had plating and 1 in 14 had a set trigger. Wood is original with traces of original finish. Bore is of unknown .45 caliber chambering (45-60 or 45-75) and is not mentioned in letter. Set trigger is out of adjustment. Gun should be checked before firing. Good mechanics with a gun that has potential. DLM
