Kentucky style rifle made in Steubenville, Ohio by James Teaff circa 1830. Full octagon rifled barrel measuring 36" long and 1" across muzzle flats. Barrel has blade front sight with fixed notch rear with "J. Teaff" signed in script. London Warranted 2 bolt flint lock which fits mortise with a little bit of shrinkage in the back. Lock is controlled by double set triggers. Full curly maple stock with brass hardware including a finely engraved 4 piece patchbox with 9 piercings. Brass long toeplate with button release for patchbox in toe. 8 coin silver inlays with engraved oval above cheekpiece. CONDITION: Metal parts have aged patina with lock looking to be of the period. Barrel was possibly shortened at one point in time with last 12" of forestock and last two inlays and ramrod pipe being replaced. Wood has traces of original finish with some repair around wrist and tang. Gun has various small chips missing and damage consistent with age. Dark bore with visible rifling and good mechanics. DLM
