Civil War carbine made by H. Merrill, Baltimore, Maryland circa 1860 to 1865. Blued rifled barrel with blade front sight with missing rear sight. "Monkey Tail" style action with lever marked on top "JH Merrill Balto/Pat July 1858". Lever serial numbered at rear "5706". Percussion lock marked "J.H. Merrill Balto./ Pat July 1858/APL. 9 May 21-28-61" with serial number "5706". Walnut 1 piece stock with brass hardware including brass 2 piece patchbox. CONDITION: Overall fair with metal turning a dark patina with some surface freckling. Brass has been cleaned and is fading to a golden patina. Wood has oil soaked appearance with small hairline crack behind lock on wrist. Missing saddle ring. Shootable dark bore with some light frosting. Good mechanics. DLM
