Starting in the 1960's, Israel acquired many US manufactured 1919A4 machine guns that were leftover from World War II, which they modified and converted for use for the next three decades. In the 1990s many were brought back to the United States and sold as parts kits, this being a key example. Bottom, interior of the right sideplate is import stamped by Allied Armament. Right side of receiver reads "NO. 729 U.S.INSP. AS/ BROWNING MACHINE GUN/ U.S.CAL.30 M1919A4/ MAN'FD BY SAGINAW STEERING GEAR DIV./ GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION". Many components including the top cover, booster, receiver, etc. retain their Israeli markings. The receiver, bolt, and rear sight are marked "7.62" signifying that this specimen was converted to fire 7.62x51mm NATO ammunition while under Israeli ownership. This 1919A4 is very nicely accessorized, with the accessories including an extra barrel, barrel sleeve, spade grips, 1919A6 bipod, M2 tripod, a .30 caliber linking machine, and a bag of disintegrating links. Traverse and elevation mechanism and tripod pintle are not present. CONDITION: Metal components retain the vast majority of their applied green parkerized finish, exhibiting little wear and some minor cosmetic scratches. Very nice bore, with well defined rifling throughout. Overall, a nicely accessorized 1919A4, that one would be sure to enjoy at the range. -MLW-
