Sharps Model 1863 Conversion Saddle Ring single shot carbine. This famous Civil War carbine was converted to fire from percussion, to the 50-70 cartridge sometime after 1867. 22" round steel barrel with blade front sight with pedestal base. Sliding rear sight adjustable to 700 yards. Rear sight base is marked "R.S. LAWRENCE / PATENTED / FEB 15TH 1859". Frame is marked "R.S. LAWRENCE PAT / APRIL 12TH 1859", in addition to "C.SHARPS' PAT / OCT 5TH 1852", both on the right side. Left side of the frame is marked " C.S. SHARPS PAT / SEPT 13th 1848". Blued finish barrel with an original case colored frame and lever. Lightly finished wood stock with boxed "EF" and boxed "DH" cartouches on the left side if the stock. Saddle bar and ring with correct metal butt plate. CONDITION: Metal retains 70% of its original finish with some light wear. Wood is very good with minor handling marks and scratches. Bore has a few minor pits near the muzzle, being otherwise clean. Retains sharp rifling. Tight hammer. Mechanically fine. JWA
