During the final stages of World War I the US Navy operated five railway guns in France. These railway guns were operated by US Navy personnel who were issued US Marine Corps uniforms. Since there were only five railway guns being operated at the end of the war, there was not a lot of Navy personnel to operate them. Therefore, uniforms from US Navy railway gun teams are quite scarce. This uniform is an M1917 forest green USMC uniform with a carpenter's mate 1st class rate that was hand sewn to the left arm. The end of the left sleeve exhibits a service chevron. CONDITION: The tunic retains all of its original metal USMC buttons. The tunic exhibits slight mothing but the moth nips do not penetrate the liner. The liner has slight staining. Overall very good. JD
