Samuel McCosh Kentucky style percussion target rifle made in Alleghany, Pennsylvania circa 1850. Full octagon rifled barrel with homemade brass globe front sight and intricate gunsmith made rear peep sight with sliding wedge in groove adjustment. Protected type bolster. G. Golcher marked percussion lock with double set trigger control. Full curly maple stock with German silver furniture including an engraved saddle plate. 9 silver inlays including an engraved "man in the moon" inlay on cheek. CONDITION: Metal has turned to an aged plum patina with some light surface freckling. Hammer is slightly loose on lock but still functions. Wood retains well over 60% of the original dark piano style finish with no visible repairs or restoration. Good shootable bore with good mechanics. DLM
