Alexander Applebay worked in Wellsburg, West Virginia from circa 1845 to 1850 then in Steubenville and later Lowell, Ohio from 1850 to 1884. This rifle has a full octagon rifled barrel with a flip style front bead sight (broken) and fixed rear notch sight. Long top tang with threaded hole for a "Lollipop" style peep sight (missing). Barrel measures 1 -1/16" from flat to flat. Golcher marked percussion lock controlled by double set triggers. Curly maple half stock with brass furniture and pewter nose cap. German silver cheek inlay and saddle plate. Period German silver wrist repair. CONDITION: Metal parts turning a brown patina with some light surface pitting. Brass and silver have an aged unpolished look. Wood has traces of original finish with period repair at wrist repairing a long ago wrist break. Shootable bore with good mechanics. DLM
