Kentucky style percussion target rifle made in the Huntingdon County Pennsylvania style circa 1850. Full octagon rifled barrel with gunsmith made globe front sight and a rear gunsmith made adjustable peep sight covering part of the maker's name " D. Cr*** possibly Daniel Crum or Crumm. There are two D. Crum gunsmiths that are known and each built similar rifles with one from Newport, Perry County and the other from Saltillo, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania. Rifle is very similar to rifle pictured on page 38 of Chandler and Mitchell's "A History of Early Perry County Guns and Gunsmiths". Gun has "Joseph Golcher" marked percussion lock controlled by gunsmith made double set triggers front being lathe turned (trait common in Huntingdon but used by both). Curly maple full stock with brass furniture including a brass engraved oval capbox. Gun has 27 German silver inlays with crude borderline engraving. Gun has pronounced cheekpiece (similar to Page 38 Chandler and Mitchell rifle) with stepped Huntingdon style buttplate and Huntingdon style black piano stock finish. CONDITION: Overall good with aged patina and extra rear dovetail in barrel with sight missing. Stock has no visible restoration and has normal usage dings and marks with most of the original dark finish remaining. Good shootable bore and good mechanics. DLM
