Percussion heavy target rifle weighing almost 20lbs made by John N. Gardner of Scranton, Pennsylvania between 1865 and 1894. Blued full octagon Remington Cast Steel barrel measuring 1 -1/2" across muzzle flats. Barrel is drilled for a false muzzle with dovetail globe front sight, rear adjustable sight and tang threaded with gunsmith made "Lollipop" style peep sight. Barrel stamped "J.N. Gardner Scranton, Pa.". Integral protected percussion ignition system with unmarked back action percussion lock controlled by double set triggers. Walnut Scheutzen style butt with Swiss iron buttplate and pronounced cheekpiece and iron double loop trigger guard. Comes with bullet starter, false muzzle, and antique wooden box full of bullets and accessories. CONDITION: Metal fading to a silvery aged patina with some light surface corrosion. Wood has aged look to finish with some light crazing and a small hairline crack behind tang. Good shootable bore with functioning but sticky mechanics. DLM
