Lot consists of: (A) WWII USMC photo album with beautiful graphics on the cover and ID'D to C.E. Wright. Every page of the album is filled with great wartime photos. The contents include ship life, burials at sea, ships, aircraft, marine antics including pretending to stab each other, scenery, and so on. Around the middle of the album the content turns quite graphic with photos labeled "the bread knife death" and "getting the knife into action one stroke is enough". There are a few loose photos stuffed into the album. CONDITION: Photos are crisp, some exhibit fading, and the album is sturdy and intact. Overall excellent. (B) WWII USMC photo album ID'D to Pfc. Alexandro Valdaio, 6th Marine Division. The album is more than half full of photos and other ephemera. The inside cover highlights the album, as Pfc. Valdaio wrote down all of the ships he was on as well as all of the locations he was sent to during the War. The album is filled with great content including, camp life, friends, B-29 bombers, girls, and so on. Like the first album, this one also has graphic content. There are many photos of battle damage, destroyed equipment, and deceased Japanese soldiers. Many of the photos were labeled by Valdaio with captions including "Conquerer looking over the Hell he'd gone through" with a Marine standing over dead Japanese soldiers and "They zigged when they should have zagged" underneath a photo of a pile of dead Japanese soldiers. These photos are graphic, but provide a clear insight to what these young men and boys went through during the war and the captions give the viewer insight as to how these Marines coped with the horrors that they witnessed at a young age. While some of these photos were mass produced during the war, this specific album with its captions reveals the personal side of the war through the thoughts of Pfc. Valdaio CONDITION: The photos are crisp, some photos and ephemera exhibit fading and wear. Overall very good. JD
