United States Marked pistol usually referred to as a "Ship's Pistol" made by one of several makers between 1797 and 1799. Round smoothbore barrel with no sights marked at rear "(Eagle)" over "P" and "US" stampings. Flint lock marked "United States" at rear and remnants of "Ketland and Co." in script below pan. Lock is stamped internally "M. Ketland & Co.". Brass sideplate with iron belt holder. Walnut stock with brass hardware. CONDITION: Gun seems to be original with some possibility of some replaced lock parts and gun has probably been restocked with wear on brass furniture not matching wood wear. Dark pitted bore with good mechanics. DLM
