Manufactured by Mauser in 1944, this P.38 was later captured by Red Army soldiers, as indicated by the Russian "X" capture mark on the left side of the frame, and the pistol's redipped finish. Navy Arms import stamp is present on the front grip strap. Mauser "byf/44" code present on the left side of the slide. Mauser eagle over "WaA135" waffenamts present on the frame, slide, barrel, breech block, and magazine spine. Frame, slide, and barrel match, with the breech block appearing to be a forced match. Mounted with a reproduction set of brown plastic serrated P.38 grips. CONDITION: Metal components retain the vast majority of their reapplied Russian finish, exhibiting areas of wear and thinning all around that show through to a brown patina. There are several areas that appear to have been wire brushed, likely by the importer. Manufacturer's markings are sharp, with some smaller proofs being partially obliterated. Bore bright, exhibiting pitting with good rifling throughout. A nice example of a Mauser manufactured P.38 pistol, that was captured by the Red Army during history's greatest conflict. -MLW-
