WWII 4th Marine Division UNIS marked field desk that is ID'D to Lt. Col. Gooderham L. McCormick. McCormick started his career in the Marine reserves and was one of the founders of the U.S. Naval Photographic Interpretation Center. During World War II he would reach the rank of Lt. Col. and serve as the Intelligence officer for the 4th Marine Division. McCormick has an impressive service record, as he was involved in four campaigns with the 4th Marine Division during World War II which include, Kwajalein, Saipan, Tinian, and Iwo Jima. He eventually retired as a Brigadier General. The desk is marked on the front and reads "G.L. McCormick / Lt. Col. U.S.M.C.R.". The desk is UNIS marked on all sides with the three digit code "100" in a semi circle which denotes the Headquarters Battalion of the 4th Marine Division. There is a paper label on the side of the desk with McCormick's information. CONDITION: The exterior of the desk is rough, as it exhibits paint loss and scratches which are probably from being carried around through the Pacific Theater. The desk is still very sturdy despite its appearance. The interior of the desk is in very good condition and the door opens and closes properly. There is a Japanese data plate taped to the interior of the desk. This is a very nice example of an ID'D WWII field desk that is in overall good condition for its age. JD
