Recently consigned by the Great-great Grandson of Confederate Captain, William Stewart Terrell. Colt Model 1860 Army, manufactured in 1863, serial number 91538 on the frame. Mismatched serial number on barrel assembly. 8" barrel chambered in .44 caliber. 6 shot rebated cylinder. Blue with case hardened frame, loading lever, and hammer; 1-piece walnut grips. Captain Terrell enlisted in Company A of Thomas's Legion and served through the end of the American Civil War. Thomas's Legion though based in North Carolina, was organized on September 27, 1862 in Knoxville Tennessee. The regiment consisted of 1125 men with 400 being Cherokee Indians. The Legion was also known as 'Thomas's Legion of Indians and Highlanders" and the "69th North Carolina Regiment" Lot comes with a period leather flap holster and an image of Captain Terrell. Collection is housed in a well made custom display case. CONDITION: Very good as refinished. The entre revolver has been refinished in blue, showing scattered areas of moderate pitting. Bore is turning dark. Grips show heavy wear with areas of missing wood. A very interesting American Civil War artifact that deserves further research. -MKS-
