The Company of Military Historians was founded in 1949 and since that time, has served as the preeminent membership organization in America focused on military material culture research. Since 1949, it has published "The Military Uniform in America" (MUIA) limited edition color plate series and a scholarly journal, "The Military Collector & Historian" (MC&H). This lot includes 183 color uniform plates from the MUIA series, each 11 x 14 inch format, ranging from Colonial and Revolutionary War uniforms, Civil War and up to the 1960's, published between 1949- c.1993. They are housed in clear plastic display sheets (and easily removed from such) within six binders and were formerly the property of H. Charles McBarron, "Dean of American Military Artists" and one of the five founding members of the Company. Many of the color plates were by him, while other notables include George Woodbridge, Eric Manders, Peter Copeland and Don Troiani. All of these plates are out-of-print and difficult to locate on the secondary market. With these plates are 72 issues of the MC&H quarterly journal, ranging from 1949-2009, including the original run of vols. I-VI (1949-1954--24 issues), VIII (1956--2), XI (1959--4), and the complete run from 1965-1970 (24 issues--housed in two MC&H custom cloth binders), plus misc. numbers. The journal's articles primarily focus on arms, uniforms, accoutrements and other military material culture in the Americas, 1492-present. CONDITION: The color plates are generally in excellent condition, the colors bright; some of the journal issues have light fading or surface wear to the covers, the internal pages bright and clean.
