Circa 1850's. Impressive short double barreled shotgun modified for close in work by barkeepers, coach drivers and others needing a powerful defense gun. Originally produced by Perkins of London. English proofed on bottom of barrels and maker's marked on sides of locks as well as illegibly on the center rib. Barrels have been shortened to 12" and stock has been period modified at the wrist into a pistol configuration. Barrels are retained by a single steel wedge. These iconic guns are frequently depicted in movies and stories of the old west but are rarely encountered in any authentic condition. This example is accompanied by an appraisal from noted dealer and appraiser Paul Ambrose of Connecticut. CONDITION: Fine as found with the barrels having attained and even salt & pepper corrosion that has been cleaned and is now a mottled silver. The stock has been lightly sanded and refinished in its past as well as having a repaired crack at the forend tip. A repaired crack is also visible at the wrist. The locks operate properly. The bores are dark. Gun has a very good overall appearance and comes with previously noted Appraisal from Paul Ambrose.
