Springfield Model 1873 Trapdoor rifled musket and is one of 7,211 rifles made in 1875. Blued round rifled barrel with correct blade front sight, rear stepped sight up to 400 yards, and flip-up sight up to 1200 yards. Case hardened action with high arch breechblock marked "Model 1873 / (eagle head) / (crossed arrows) / US". Receiver marked with "MASS." indicating use by Massachusetts Guard. "US Springfield / 1873" marked lock with 2-position hammer and Federal eagle stamp. Walnut full military stock with "P" in circle stamp behind trigger guard and oval cartouche on left side. Iron furniture with correct "US" marked buttplate with no provision for trap and comes with original steel ramrod. CONDITION: Metal turning a plum shade of patina with sharp markings. Wood has oil soaked appearance with small dings and scratches. Small stress crack near lock bolt that appears stable. Dark but shootable bore with good mechanics. DLM
