Beginning production at the Tula Arsenal in 1939, the SVT-38's complicated design varied greatly from the Soviet Union's usual simple weapon designs. Designed with weight reduction in mind, the SVT-38's initial introduction to combat during the Winter War exhibited several issues with its design, which ultimately led to its cease of production. This example was manufactured at the Tula Arsenal in 1939. Matching numbers are present on the receiver, bolt carrier, and are faintly visible on the left side of the stock. Russian arsenal stamps are present on most small components. Buttstock has been repaired, and exhibits a crack from the wrist to the butt along either side. Complete with side-mounted cleaning rod. CONDITION: Metal components retain fair to good amounts of their original blue finish, exhibiting some scattered areas of oxidation as well as thinning all around that shows through to grey patina. Bore exhibits oxidation in the grooves and retains poor to fair amounts of rifling throughout. Stock exhibits scattered handling marks and a few scattered areas of marring all around. With only 150,000 SVT-38 rifles manufactured, this makes for a nice example of a rare Russian World War II semi-automatic rifle. -MLW-
