Percussion Kentucky style rifle made by Peter Smith II Ennisville, Huntingdon County Pennsylvania circa 1850. Full octagon rifled barrel with rifle style sights and signed in script "P S" for Peter Smith. Percussion lock marked "Truitt Bros & Co" controlled by double set triggers with front trigger being lathe turned. Full curly Huntingdon Style architecture maple stock with brass, German silver, and coin silver furniture. Brass furniture includes an unique oval two piece patchbox, trigger guard, toeplate, sideplate and ramrod pipes. Gun has unique Huntingdon style German Silver stepped buttplate and a coin silver engraved "Man in the Moon" inlay on the cheekpiece. Comes with original hardwood ramrod. CONDITION: Overall a good solid rifle with replaced back plate and patchbox lid. Metal has aged patina with light surface pitting. Brass has aged golden patina. Wood has traces of original finish with pleasing dark color. No visible stock restoration or repairs with a small crack in front of lock. Dark bore with visible rifling and good mechanics. DLM
