1873-1878 vintage Colt 1860 Army Richards Conversion "Belly Gun" single action revolver, serial number 1778 (conversion number 526). 2 - 3/4" round barrel chambered in .44 Centerfire with conversion plate notch rear sight and blade front. Complete with 1 piece plain walnut grip. The term "Belly Gun" refers to conversion revolvers that were purposefully cut down (usually by a gunsmith outside of the factory) for use as self defense guns and were popular in both the East and the West. CONDITION: Very good with most of the period applied nickel plating remaining with areas of finish loss namely on either side of frame and around conversion plate. Trigger guard is mostly a mustard yellow patina with cylinder scene still present. Barrel was professionally cut down during the period and front sight was added. Grip exhibits areas of heavy wear, light chipping, and finish loss but is strong with no visible cracks. Action works correctly and is tight. Bore is dark with worn but visible rifling. A very interesting piece of history. TON
