Lot consists of: (A) Smith & Wesson Model 1937 Brazilian contract double action revolver. Made on contact for the Brazilian government circa late 1930s - early 1940s. Based on the 1917 double action revolver and chambered for .45 ACP/.45 Autorim. Standard patent date on top of the barrel. Small "S&W" monogram on the left side of the frame. Large Brazilian crest on the right side of the frame over the contract date of "1937". No visible import mark. Matching serials on the barrel butt and cylinder. Assembly numbers on the frame and crane match as well. Rack number of "12989" on the backstrap. 5 - 1/2" round barrel with blade front sight and U-notch rear. Factory heavy blue finish with wear and handling marks. Square butt with lanyard loop on the butt. Later production checkered wood grips with Smith & Wesson medallions. CONDITION: Metal retains 70% of its original finish with handling marks and scratches. Grips have a few handling marks and scratches. Bore is clean with crisp rifling. Tight hammer and cylinder. Good lockup and timing. Mechanically fine. (B) Smith & Wesson Model 1937 Brazilian contract double action revolver. Made on contract for the Brazilian government circa late 1930s - early 1940s. Assembly numbers on the frame and crane match as well. 5 - 1/2" round barrel with blade front sight and U-notch rear. Factory heavy blue finish with wear and handling marks. Square butt with lanyard loop on the butt. Smooth finish wood grips look to be aftermarket. CONDITION: Metal retains 50% of its original finish with handling marks, wear and scratches. Grips are excellent. Bore has some light frosting with very good overall rifling. Hammer is tight. Cylinder has some side-side movement. Good lockup and timing. Mechanically fine. JWA
