Standard configuration P.08 manufactured by Mauser for the German military during World War II. It is believed that at some point in 1942, the German Army transferred the first 5000 "M" block Lugers to Portugal after stamping them with German military acceptance proofs. These Lugers do not bear any of the typical commercial or Portuguese markings found on previous Portuguese contract Lugers, and instead bear the typical German "GESICHERT" marked safety and "GELADEN" marked extractor. More interestingly, the left side of the frame bears a German post-war eagle over "N" proof, followed by Hanover Proof House horse stamp, and the numbers "77" within a shield. Indicating that this gun was imported into West Germany in 1977. The left side of the receiver bears German post-war firing proofs, with a Mauser eagle over "135" waffenamt present on the left side of the barrel. Underside of barrel is stamped "9mm Para". Left side of the frame is stamped "P.08". Matching numbers include the frame, locking bolt, trigger, safety lever, barrel, and receiver. The sideplate, trigger bar, extractor, and toggles are force matched, with the toggles being ground down before renumbering. Breechblock and firing pin match themselves and the receiver axle is mismatched. This Luger is accompanied by a matching Portuguese M943 brown leather holster, which is serialized on the front of the flap and retains a matching loading tool and unmarked cleaning rod, as well as a printed document from luger.gunboards.com, detailing the markings of this Luger. CONDITION: Metal components retain most of their arsenal reapplied blue finish, exhibiting edgewear all around and areas of thinning that show through to gray and brown patinas. Bore is bright and retains good rifling throughout. Black plastic grips show smoothing, as well as some impressions and scattered nicks to the diamonds. Leather holster is very good retaining good stitching and exhibiting some scattered handling marks all around. A nice example of a seldom seen and uniquely traveled Luger. -MLW-
