The "Ub" marked Lugers were assembled from old or out of tolerance components at the Mauser factory for internal testing, and usually show rough machining marks and finishing. The receiver is stamped "Ub" over "1939" over the chamber area, which is thought to stand for "Ubung" for practice, as well as an "A" on top of the barrel which is thought to indicate "Anschuss" for accuracy. The toggle is stamped with an unknown "S" stamp, which could possible signify "Stark" for strong. A single, only partially discernable eagle over "t.3" is present on the rear toggle with the first letter of the waffenamt being illegible. The serial number "1311" appears to have been hand-stamped onto the left-hand side of the receiver. Matching numbers include the frame, locking bolt, trigger, sideplate, barrel, receiver, and forward toggle link. Other components are unserialized. Grips are marked "Ub" and "S" along side the serial number. Magazine appears to be a forced matched. This cataloger has noted many inconsistencies between the Mauser Test Lugers, and advises one to use their own intuition when observing one. CONDITION: Metal components retain the vast majority of their reapplied blue finish, exhibiting some minor dings and nicks, as well as a few areas of wear from operation. Bore is bright, exhibiting what appears to be striations from heavy cleaning, and retaining fair rifling throughout. Checkered walnut grips exhibit areas of smoothing, as well as some nicks and impressions. MLW
