Framed letter from and signed by Samuel Colt to John S. Jarvis, Esquire dated June 28, 1861 (just about 6 months before Samuel Colt's death on January 10, 1862) regarding a shipment of 1,000 Enfield pattern rifle muskets (Enfield 1853) in Enfield caliber (.58 caliber) for Colt from England for use in patterning and developing what would become the Colt 1861 Special Contract Rifle Musket. Complete in modern black hardwood archival frame made by North Florida Art Services in Jacksonville, Florida. CONDITION: Very good with a few small areas of tears and smudging, with letter being mostly legible. Letter has creases consistent with being folded in an envelope. Main body of letter appears to be written by a different hand, which was common practice for someone of Samuel Colt's stature, with someone else writing the letter and him signing it. Frame is very good with rubs and handling marks mostly on high edges. A living piece of history ready for display. TON
