Rare .300 Savage caliber Winchester Standard Weight Model 70 bolt action rifle made by Winchester Repeating Arms in 1948. Winchester Proof Steel blued standard weight barrel marked on underside "300 SAV 46" with hooded ramp front sight and plugged rear sight. Correct manufacture date for this barrel. Blued receiver with correct drilled receiver and possibly factory added Lyman 48WJS receiver sight. Correct solid handle bolt numbered "86248" with matches receiver. Walnut checkered low comb stock with standard loop sling swivels, blued checkered steel Widow's Peak buttplate, and quick detachable blued steel floorplate. A nice example of a rare caliber Model 70. PROVENANCE: George Baumer Collection. CONDITION: 90% plus barrel blue with small handling marks and carrying marks on floorplate and wear on the bolt handle. Buttplate possibly has added finish. 90% plus varnish with some handling marks and dings with most noticeable one under receiver sight and on right side forestock checkering panel. Good bore and mechanics and a great example of a rare Model 70. DLM
