Winchester Model 54 carbine bolt action rifle made by Winchester Repeating Arms Company in 1929. Rare carbine style rifle made in rare .38-55 caliber. Blued 20" carbine barrel marked "Model 54 - Winchester Trademark - NICKEL STEEL" with caliber "38-55" on left breech. Integral front ramp with pinned sheared blade Marble's front sight with Lyman 66-W rear 1-leaf folding sight. Barrel correctly marked on underside with "38-55", "MNS", "(triangle) 1", and "28". Correct finish "A" suffix action made without the stripper clip notch, which is correct for all rimmed actions. Correct drilled front bridge with undrilled rear and side drilled for Lyman 48 receiver sight. Correct numbered unbent bolt handle bolt with number matching receiver (22614). Plain walnut pistol grip single-piece stock with forestock finger groove, blued serrated buttplate, blued 1-piece trigger guard, and correct hook-and-eye style sling swivel studs. PROVENANCE: George Baumer Collection. CONDITION: 90% plus barrel blue with case wear near muzzle and some small handling marks. 90% action finish with operating wear and bolt handle showing some wear turning to a silvery patina. Floorplate has some added blue with buttplate having been cleaned. Stock has been cleaned professionally cleaned with some small handling marks. Good bore and mechanics. A hard-to-find rifle with condition. DLM
