Winchester super rare special order standard weight Model 70 bolt action rifle made by Winchester Repeating Arms Company in 1938. Winchester Proof Steel 26" blued standard weight barrel with special order 1-in-12 twist for use with the special order caliber ".22 HP". Barrel has hooded ramp front sight. Rear barrel boss dovetail sight has been replaced with period Stith scope dovetail mount with Lyman "Alaskan" scope with post reticle and rear Stith mount fastened in rear peep sight holes. Barrel is marked on underside with "22HP", triangle with "1", and "37". Correct black finished pre-war style action with correct 2-hole drilled front bridge, cut out for stripper clip, and undrilled rear bridge. Correct pre-war style bolt with solid style bolt handle with correct pre-war wing-type safety numbered "16300" which matches the receiver number. Walnut pre-war fine checkered low comb pistol grip stock with "B" in channel with blued checkered steel Widow's Peak buttplate and blued steel detachable floorplate with original bow type sling swivels. Comes with original Stith mount box with original papers. Really rare and desirable rifle. PROVENANCE: George Baumer Collection. CONDITION: 90% barrel blue with case and muzzle wear with some light handling marks. 90% action blue with bolt operating wear. Floorplate has worn to an honest 40% remaining original blue with trigger bow worn to a silvery patina. 85% original varnish with honest hunting and usage wear with buttplate starting to turn silver on edges. Good bore and mechanics. Scope is clear and functions fine. DLM
