1881 Vintage Winchester Model 1873 Rifle, serial number 69508. 24" full octagon barrel with full-length magazine tube. Chambered in .44-40 WCF. Standard sights. Plain trigger. Blue with casehardened lever, hammer, and buttplate. Plain, straight grain walnut stock and forearm. Rifle-style crescent buttplate. Accompanying Winchester Museum letter dated December 10, 2002, signed by Waddy Colvert. Letter confirms configuration and further states "Received in warehouse on April 11, 1881 and Shipped from warehouse on July 13, 1881, order number 26697". CONDITION: Excellent overall. Approximately 95% original bright high polished blue remaining on the frame. Approximately 93-95% original blue on barrel and magazine tube, scattered areas of lifted blue at barrel muzzle. Bright "peacock" blue on loading gate. Approximately 90% bright case color remaining on the lever and hammer. Buttplate is mainly a dove grey patina. Bore is bright and clean. Wood is sound showing light wear. Overall a very attractive, high condition Model 1873 in desirable caliber and configuration. -MKS-
